A Look Back at 2011 + A Resolution or Two

2011 has been a very exciting year! I was thinking back over the year and all the changes that have happened. Let's take a look down memory lane...

January - I had started planning for starting my own business. What began as a dream now turned into a constant thought. I discussed plans with my husband and he gave me the green light plus a lot of encouragement.

February - I wrote a business plan. I had no idea how to do this but I researched various websites, books and magazines until I wrote a plan perfect for starting my business. I also started working on a website. I already did this for a living but enlisted help from a sweet friend as well. She came up with my logo and look. It was free in exchange for one day filming her wedding!

March - I ordered equipment. This was exciting and nerve wrecking. I had always used camera equipment from the college and having my own was completely new to me. On March 24th I launched my website/blog. It was such an emotional day. I am still smiling from the outpouring of love I received from friends and family.

April - We were approached by Rusty's work about the potential of moving to San Antonio. Both of us grew up in Arkansas and had laid our roots here. It was kind of scary thinking that I launched this business with Arkansas brides in mind and now we could move to Texas. Rusty and I thought hard and prayed about the right move to make.

May - I had my first wedding in Mountain Home, Arkansas. One week after I launched LBP a woman contacted me to film her son's wedding. I also had the opportunity to film my start up wedding for Brady and Sarah. Also in that month Rusty and I traveled down to San Antonio to look for a place to live still with no confirmation that we were moving. We also were not allowed to discuss the move with anyone but our close family. That part was hard! The last week in May we were given the green light and we set to move to Texas by the last week of June. On Memorial Day we were eating dinner at our house with family when Rusty's boss called and said plans had changed and Rusty needed to leave the following Wednesday (3 days). That was it. Just like that we were moving and moving fast. Rusty wrapped up work, said goodbye to friends and family and made the drive to our new home. I had ONE week to pack my entire house. I scrambled but with help from my mom we got it finished. One week after Rusty left I said bye to Jonesboro, our first home and my close friends. I stayed in El Dorado for a week (where my family lives). That also meant that Rusty and I were separated for two weeks. It was hard, emotional and a stressful time.

June - I arrived in New Braunfels, Texas and fell in love. This town is so great! God really knows what he is doing. We settled in to our home that we are renting. It is located in the hill country and the view every morning is breathtaking. We have never lived in the country but I am so thankful for this time now. Getting acquainted with New Braunfels took some time and we are still learning a lot. We also sold Rusty's car. I add that part in here because I hated that car and selling it plus paying it off was a miracle.

July - My family came down to stay with us for the first time. We didn't get to see fireworks because of the burn ban throughout most of Southern Texas. We started looking for a new car and began meeting new friends. I also started looking for opportunities to grow my business in Texas plus looking for a part-time job. At the end of the month I traveled to Indiana to visit my best friend Summer. My husband without hesitation and knowing how home sick I was bought me a ticket to spend a week with my best friend. The thing about moving to a new town is that it is exciting and adventurous but also hard. I missed my friends and family.

August - I celebrated my 24th birthday with a few of Rusty's work friends that traveled down from Jonesboro. I also cut off my hair and by cut off I mean it was short. At first I was terrified because I have had long curls all my life but it seemed to be a season of change so I went with it. We also bought our first car in August. I had no idea what to expect with this but it worked our great and we love our Murano! I also made a big step in signing up for my first bridal fair plus started working part-time at a wonderful business in downtown NB.

September - I nervously made decor and information for my first booth at the San Antonio Bridal Extravaganza. I literally had no idea what to expect or what I was doing. I just went with it. Rusty and I decorated my booth the day before and then celebrated with wings (our main celebratory dish). The day of the bridal fair I was a big bag of nerves. By the end of the event I was tired but so encouraged. It was great meeting all the brides and to date I booked 3 weddings. I also filmed my 3rd wedding in Arkansas.

October - This month is one of my favorites because we celebrated our first wedding anniversary. I cannot believe we have one year of marriage under our belt. Everyone asks whether it was easy or not. At times it was hard. I will be honest about that but 99% of the time we have so much fun. My husband is one of the greatest people I know. We also celebrated our puppies first birthday. Our Jane dog turned one and lots of treats were in order. I also traveled back to Arkansas for a week and filmed two weddings. It was a very busy month!

November - This month brought my 6th wedding and another trip home. I love getting to mix work with family time. I also got to spend quality time with my friends. Along with November I slowed down a bit and really enjoyed the holidays. Thanksgiving was another trip back to Arkansas but I also got turkey, ham and hashbrown casserole.

December - I wrapped up the year with my last wedding of 2011. It also marked my first Texas wedding! It was one of the best weddings I have attended. I am still working on finishing editing two weddings but I have enjoyed Christmas and family time.

This year I have learned that there is a lot more to starting a business than just jumping in but I also know that if you want it bad enough you can make anything happen. I learned that old friendships are to be cherished because it makes the newer ones even sweeter. I learned that family is one of the greatest gifts God has ever given us. I reaffirmed that my husband really is my soul mate and the only person for me. God made him just for me. He made him to support, encourage and push me. I feel in love with a new city and have come to appreciate new experiences and traditions.

I also want to thank my clients for your business. Thank you for believing in me and your positive feedback. You are the heart of Lovebird Productions and I cannot do what I love to do without you.

Thank you to my readers. This blog grows every day and it amazes me that you even take the time to read my thoughts.

Also thank you to a family who loves me and friends who encourage me. I love each and every one of you.

Now with all that I have learned I am ready for what is ahead. Here are a few resolutions/goals:

1. Explore all my interests. One thing God gifted me with is a few passions. I am glad that I have a lot of interests and thankful for a husband who smiles when I bring up a new adventure.

2. Keep learning and trying new things. This goes for videography and life in general. Moving to Texas has shown us new traditions. I also want to keep studying video and trying new things behind the camera. I can always stand to improve my quality!

3. Continue running a small business. I love what I do and I want to keep doing it. I hope to grow professionally.

4. Travel more. I want to see more of my favorite places plus visit a few new ones!

5. Do more filming of nonwedding events. I hope to add a few fun things to my portfolio not only for my own entertainment but yours as well.

2012 is just a few hours away. I know 2012 is full of the unkown and I am ready to jump in. Cheers to the New Year!

P.S. A big thank you to Rachel for my cute bag in the picture. Perfect Christmas gift!

Todd and Kimberly Wedding Day Highlight

Thursday and one day closer to 2012! I am so excited for the New Year! I thought why not celebrate the close of 2011 with another wonderful couple and their highlight video? I am glad you agree.

Todd and Kimberly were married on November 12, 2011 in Jonesboro, AR. Kimberly has been a friend and sorority sister for a few years now and I was beyond excited to film her big day. Kimberly was another bride that graciously booked me without any sampling of my work. She also was my first client meeting and I will remember that forever. Her and Todd are a perfect match! They compliment each other so well and by watching this video you will how much they love each other.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday and let me know what you think!

Recipe: Scotch Sour

Happy Monday! I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas. I got to experience my first Christmas in Texas and will continue the celebration when my family arrives today. I got a relaxing weekend with my better half. I even finished a book in one day. I can't remember the last time I did that! Sometimes a good book and a full day of PJ's is just what you need.

With the New Year just around the corner I thought I would share a fun and festive holiday cocktail perfect for entertaining and welcoming 2012. Say hello to the Scotch Sour...

Photo Source: Pinterest via Somewhere Splendid

Here is what you need:

2 ounces scotch
1 teaspoon lime juice
1/2 teaspoon powdered sugar
1 cherry or fruit to garnish

Directions:

1. Shake scotch, lime juice and powdered sugar in a cocktail shaker with ice until sugar dissolves.

2. Strain into an old-fashioned glass, mason jar, martini glass and garnish with the perfect New Year accessory. Try adding fruit, a bell, sugar around the rim or anything that sparkles! This recipe was adapted from She Knows.

This cocktail is sure to please guests and add a little punch to your holiday party or shower.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and A Lot of Love

Guys it is almost Christmas! Oh my goodness. It makes my heart so happy! There are many things to look forward to. First our fun Christmas card that we sent to friends and family:

I love getting Christmas cards. I love the sweet messages and photos. One thing I realized this year was how much our list is growing. Last year we sent out about 25 cards and this year we ordered 40 and sent out all of them. I love that our list is getting longer. It is such a blessing!

On another note, I did not want to do a reader Q & A today. I wanted to keep things light and happy plus everyone is probably going to be little elves with last minute shopping, wrapping and baking.

2011: Inspiration Boards

A few things are in order first. It isn't Christmas until you make yourself in a elf and watch yourself dance around and sing. We didn't get to include Jane because a puppy face on an elf just didn't look right. This is just for your entertainment....and mine too.

Personalize funny videos and birthday eCards at JibJab!

This week we have been taking a look back at your favorites and mine of 2011. Today I wanted to look at inspiration boards. Like this nautical board full of crisp white, red and navy details. It makes me happy!

1. Cake, 2. Invitations, 3. Bridal Party, 4. Beach Shot, 5. Nautical Flags, 6. Shells, 7. Flowers, 8. Place Card

The other inspiration board that got a lot of attention was the "Gifts in the Jar." I love this board because it not only inspires Christmas cheer but also added inspiration for the perfect gift.

2011: Favorite Photo and Video

Photo Source: Lovely Little Details via Shutter Candy Photography

Doesn't that picture get you excited for today's post? This past May I saw this e-session over on Lovely Little Details and it stopped me dead in my tracks. I loved every. single. picture. This couple oozed charm and suburban love. I titled the post Cooking in the Kitchen and am amazed at the number of people who have viewed this post. It has had almost 1,000 hits on the site and is one of the very few e-sessions I have featured on LBP. For the couples full love story, Jacin has those details on Lovely Little Details. (P.s. You are going to be hooked on Lovely Little Details. It always brightens my day.)

I have featured three videos on the blog (more to come soon) but the most viewed is Laken's Wedding Day + Ceremony Highlight. I love watching it too! Let's revisit her big day by clicking here. The music for her highlight was perfect.

It is Tuesday. Ready for Christmas? Anyone have any last minute gift shopping? Stick around this week as we revisit all my favorite + your favorite posts.

A Lot of Favorites: 2011 Lovebird Spottings

Guys I do not know about y'all but I am VERY ready for Christmas. Less than a week to go! Fall/Winter is always a fun time of year for the Farrins. We celebrated our one-year anniversary this past October (more on that here) and Jane dog had her first birthday that same month. Throw in Thanksgiving and Christmas and you can see why I love this time of year.

A year ago I had baby fever. Rusty and I were newly married and not ready for a baby but I thought about a baby all the time. I decided that a puppy was exactly what we needed. I started browsing online shelters in our area and found the cutest pup. I nervously submitted an application all without mentioning this to my husband. Eeeek. I eventually told him how much I wanted a puppy and he said we would think about it. The shelter called and I was approved for fur parent status. I can remember driving to Wynne to get our bitty (nickname). The manager of the shelter let me walk Holiday now Jane around and when I went to sit on the ground to play with her it looked just like Jane was hugging my leg. I was hooked!

I became a full fur mom that day and I am so lucky. My husband had never had a dog (strange to me) and learned a lot about puppies. Jane is so loving. She really is a best friend to my husband and I. She drives us crazy at times but we wouldn't have it any other way. She always loves on us, cuddles with us and puts the biggest smile on our faces. It amazes me that attachment that I have to Jane. Moving to Texas was exciting but at times very hard. Jane has always been there to make us laugh and remember that regardless of where we live as long as we are together we are home. Cheesy I know but I cannot imagine life without our fuzz butt (another nickname). Happy one year as a Farrin, Jane girl!

Can you imagine how bad I will be when I have a child? It is bad.

This week I plan on sharing my favorite posts from this past year + your favorites (most read) posts. I want to enjoy just a bit of down time this week and next. I plan on blogging every day but also taking things slow and enjoying this time of year. Have I mentioned how excited I am for Christmas yet?

One of the biggest and most read posts are about the wonderful brides I have worked with. Each bride is featured on the blog along with a quick interview about her other half, their wedding plans and also what life holds for them after their big day. I have featured four brides:

1. Nikki and Jordan Irby: Their wedding + reception was wonderful! Nikki is one of the sweetest people I know. Since their big day Nikki's wedding was featured on The Wedding Post here. To see the original interview click here.

2. Sarah and Brady DeClerk: Brady and Sarah were my true start into wedding videography and what a gorgeous and perfect wedding to begin with. Sarah is one of the most talented people I know. She has is fashionable, an awesome baker and an even sweeter friend. Their wedding was printed in Arkansas Bride which I mentioned here last week. To see the original interview click here and here.

3. Laken and Murray Watts: I just love Laken! Her wedding was so sweet and included one of the most intimate and personal ceremonies I have ever been apart of. To see the original interview click here.

4. Kimberly and Todd Baumgartner: Kimberly wins the most organized bride award. This girl kept me in the loop and I cannot express how comfortable that makes me feel. The day of her wedding was probably the most laid back and carefree start to a big wedding day. To see the original interview click here.

I hope that you all enjoy the recaps this week plus remembering posts that made you smile. Happy Monday loves!

Love Song Friday, Volume 34

Hope you enjoyed the new Q & A segment I am doing each Friday. In case you missed it just click here for all the details.

Things to keep in mind:

1. We are one week + a few days from Christmas.

2. It is almost the weekend.

3. I am about to share a love song with you that will make you smile.

4. I am grateful for you.

This past week we had so much fun with the Farlow gown on Wedding Dress Wednesday plus my heartfelt post. It honestly felt good to write that post. Sometimes writing this blog is therapeutic. Yesterday I shared fun jar gift ideas and had a blast writing that post! It is the little things in life.

Now for Love Song Friday! I know. I look forward to this moment all week too!

When I edit video so much goes into making it just right. One of the biggest factors is the song that I choose for the highlight. I like finding the perfect song for each couple. I came across this lovely tune a few weeks ago and am looking forward to using it in a montage.

Meant to Be has such sweet lyrics. This version is a cover of Melissa Polinar's original song by Ernie Halter. Did you get all that? ha!

Favorite lyrics:

Your love is like amazing grace
Sounds so sweet, I can almost taste
I've been given more than what I could ever ask for
I am yours

Sigh. I love this song. Time for you to take a listen and happy Friday!

Q & A: Exactly How Much?

Happy Friday! It is finally here. The day most of us wait for, some patiently and some not so much. Today I am answering a reader question that I got. I realized that between emails, texts, messages and panicked phone calls I should share my responses to wedding related questions. No I am not a professional and do not claim to be one but I have planned a wedding and regularly attend them.

These Q & A sessions are to help you and I will answer them as best as I can. These posts will be short, sweet and to the point. No long posts to read. I hope to have one every Friday but nothing is set in stone, an added perk of being the sole writer of the blog.

Last week I received this text message + photo:

Q.  Wow! Just found this online. How much do you think I need for an amazing wedding on a budget?

A. Budget is based on you. Bottom line. It is one of the most important things to start any attempt at planning your big day. If you are ready to start planning your wedding, deciding on how much you HAVE to spend (not want or wish) is the first step.

Yes, these numbers are scary and for some weddings it can be $20,000. The thing I learned most when planning a wedding is that it does not have to cost an arm and a leg. You can plan an affordable wedding that is amazing, ideal and totally you. When working with a budget I encourage brides to do their homework. Do not pick a bakery just because they are amazing. Pick a bakery because they are amazing + saving you $500 compared to the one down the road. Research ways to cut costs. Make your own floral arrangements. Ask friends to help. Rent items or decor instead of buying them out right. DIY! Your budget doesn't define how grand your wedding is; the hard work you put into planning and saving does.

Gifts in a Jar

Thursday is upon us! It has rained so much in Texas lately that I am starting to forget what sunshine looks like. Hopefully we get a sneak peek of some sun today!

I was browsing on Pinterest (which I do not get to do enough of) and looking through Christmas ideas, DIY's, decor and and gift options. I hardly ever showcase a project on the blog via Pinterest but when I saw this fun DIY I had to show you all.

Alison over on Oopsey Daisy Blog created this awesome etched hot cocoa jar. She personalized the canister, added fun pops of color in the tag and ribbon plus threw in cocoa and marshmallows.

Photo Source: Pinterest via Oopsey Daisy Blog

When I saw this cute gift idea I thought what other fun things can you put in a jar? I love the idea of being able to gift a jar filled to the top with ingredients for a yummy recipe, handmade candy, jewelry, a candle, smell goodies (lotions or soaps) or jam! Jars are easy, for the most part inexpensive and easy to use.

Here are a few of my favorite "jar" gifts via an inspiration board:

My favorite is probably the hand sanitizer! How are you getting creative with jars this holiday season? What are your favorite jarred goodies you have gotten as gifts?

1. Sewing Kit Jar via Martha Stewart, 2. Mint Scented Candle via Hostess with the Mostess, 3. Hand Sanitizer Dispenser via Girl in Air, 4. Cookie Jar Center Piece via Martha Stewart, 5. Homemade Snow Globes via Martha Stewart, 6. Cherry Pie via Our Best Bites, 7. Snowballs via Martha Stewart, 8. Curried Lentil Soup via Good Housekeeping

A Bit of my Heart

I started my little blog and wedding videography business back in March. At the time and still often I am stumbling around trying to figure out how to balance personal life with professional life, how to run a small business and how to make each and every bride happy. No one said it would ever be easy.

When I told my husband last Thanksgiving that I wanted to start a business he didn't take me serious. I don't think I really took it serious. I pushed the thought aside but it kept coming back to me. I kept dreaming of the day I could write my wedding thoughts and sharing videography with brides. I brought up the topic after the first of the year (2011) and my husband saw my passion. He encouraged me, we bought cameras and equipment, I started my blog and I haven't looked back.

My first wedding was in May so the past 8 months I have filmed 7 weddings. I am still amazed that I have had that many people interested. Some even booked without seeing any examples of my work. Brides took risks with me and I cannot thank them enough.

It is hard at times. It is hard when I sometimes am left clueless as to what is next. The driving force behind me starting Lovebird Productions was pure love for weddings + video. I remember looking at other videographers who charge double my price and offer less than my main package and thinking I can do that. I can do that better than them and for a lot better price. Weddings aren't just business. They are a love that runs deep.

The past few weeks have been hard. I have been overlooked a few times and it stings a bit. Business is business. Maybe I am too soft or not business minded enough but I am not giving up. I was given this gift and desire for a reason. If I can make just one bride pleased on her wedding day and years to come, I have accomplished my dream. Wedding videography isn't just something that puts food on my table or pays my bills. It is something that I am always taking a risk with. I am always learning more. I am always working harder.

I am blessed to have friends and family who believe in me. Even when the chips are down, I know this is my calling. I want to give a bride the best day of her life. I want to know that a bride can show her kids her wedding DVD one day. No matter if I am overlooked I keep my head up.

Right before I announced my plans to anyone I got a fortune cookie that says, "You will reach the highest possible point in your business of profession." I know I still have a long way to go but bring it. I don't think I will reach the highest point but I know I have the will power to try. I won't give up.

I am who I am. I am a business woman (at least trying). I am a wife. I am a friend. I am a daughter and sister. I am an Aunt. I am a woman who believes in what a video can portray. I am a woman who believes in the power of a wedding DVD. I am Lovebird Productions. That's me and I promise to never stray from that.

Wedding Dress Wednesday

Happy Wednesday y'all! Ready for a seriously pretty dress?

I was browsing the newest edition of Arkansas Bride. One of the first wedding's I filmed is featured in there! Congratulations to Sarah and Brady! Remember their love story posted here and here along with a few videos here and here? Stroll down memory lane if you like.

When I was looking through the publication I always love when they show fabulous gowns sold in Arkansas stores. I turned to a full page ad of this beauty:

Photo Source: Arkansas Bride via Jason Masters

After righting myself in my chair, I looked at the dress a bit closer. This gown is a design by Enzoani and called Farlow.

Oh yeah. Just take it all in. The two fabrics listed for making this gown so stunning are lace and tulle. You know how those combinations melt my heart. This gowns skirt almost looks messy but still elegant. The back view is just as pretty as the front. I love the button detailing. I love this gown. Love it! For more on the gown click here. For more on Arkansas Bride and their latest publication click here. Also any Arkansas brides who are interested in this gown you can find it at Proposals in Little Rock.

Isn't Wedding Dress Wednesday just an added bonus to this day? Check back in just a few hours for another post! Loves!

Tips for Having the Best Reception...Ever

Tuesday morning folks! Are you awake yet? If not, pour another cup of coffee and enjoy. If you are hey hey hey!

Sorry for the absence on the blog yesterday. I was down and out (badly) with the stomach virus. Apparently it is going around San Antonio. If you are in the area watch out. Wash those hands people! I am happy to report that I am feeling somewhat better but still taking it easy. I love how a virus hits when you are the busiest. Just how things work!

I hope that everyone had a great weekend and is rounding down their Christmas shopping. I am sure it is like this everywhere but traffic and the amount of people out and about this time of year is sometimes overwhelming. Lines are long, kids are a little more hyper, people are sometimes not as kind especially when take the last Jenga on the shelf. Jenga you say? Hey, it was the first thing to come to mind.

One thing I do love about this time of year are the engagements. Everyone is getting engaged! Wahoooooo! Two of my friends from high school got engaged recently. The one who got engaged this weekend well her love took her to the Christmas ice display and had will you marry me carved in ice! I have never seen anything like it! I love the idea and I can honestly say they are the first people I know to have a proposal carved into an ice sculpture. Genius!

To any brides preparing to plan a wedding I wanted to give you a few easy tips for your reception. Every bride and groom's intentions are different for their reception. Regardless of what your overall conception is these tips will help keep your guests happy and make a reception that is unforgettable (in a good sense).

It is a list. Who would have thunk it?

1. Research. Before you can follow any of the steps listed below you have to research. How are you wanting to feed guests? Buffet or plated dinner? Band or DJ? Open bar or just wine and beer? Any DIY projects you are wanting to tackle? Think things through. Imagine your venue and where you want everything to go. Build upon your floor plan. I drew my space (a bad drawing - I am not good at that kind of stuff) and put spots for tables, chairs, dance floor, bar, gift table, welcome area.... Seeing it on paper always help. You can always find tons of inspiration from other wedding blogs, websites and Pinterest (it will suck you in - hey, I warned you).

2. Organization. I cannot stress this tip enough. If you are not good at organization set aside funds to get a professional planner or have a friend who has been married help out. When planning your reception, a majority of your budget and time goes into planning the shindig. At any given time you could be juggling a band/DJ, a florist, a caterer, a baker, the venue staff, a bartender and more. I don't say these things to scare you but the better organized you are the better off your big day will turn out.

3. Timing is everything. When filming a wedding I am always aware of what is next on the agenda. Make sure your timetable is accurate. Yes, you can plan to cut the cake at 6:15 on the dot but you may start a bit earlier or a little later. Be aware of your guests. If you have guests arrive 5pm for cocktail hour but don't serve dinner until 6:30 pm, your guests will be hungry and bit drink happy. When planning your reception timeline put yourself in the guests shoes. Make key times flow and not seem choppy or like the reception lagging. A steady flow is key to making guests happy and you not stressed.

4. Make a list of importance. When starting to plan your reception, make a list. Yes, at first this list will seem a bit long but slowly over time you will mark each thing off. The list keeps you focused, organized and on a timeline. It also allows you to hand out tasks to people who are willing to help. For a starting place on creating a well rounded list, click here.

5. Now check the things on the list off. Plain and simple. This helps you feel a sense of accomplishment and see how everything is coming together.

6. Make guests feel comfortable. I cannot stress this point enough. Guests have taken time out of their hectic day to spend 1 to 5 hours at your wedding. Yes, a lot of them do not see it that way but you should always show guests a good time. Provide plenty of seating and enough space to comfortably move. At Nikki and Jordan's wedding they had shuttles to transport guests to and from their venue. Guests didn't have to worry about the drive into the woods or how they would get back after drinking. I love photos of brides who provide buckets full of flip flops. Little things like this are so thoughtful and whether you know it or not, guests love that sweet touch. Keep them feed, quench their thirst, get them dancing and have them make life long memories.

7. Make sure there is something for everyone. If you know a lot of kids will be in attendance at the reception, make an area just for them. Set up a table with crayons, paper, bubbles and glow sticks. This helps their parents still have a good time and not worry about little Bridget throwing a temper tantrum because she is bored. If you have a handful of guests who do not drink alcohol make sure there are plenty of other beverage options. You do not have to go over the top but make sure your guests is satisfied.

8. Give them instruction. I cannot count the number of times the bride says that they do not want to serve the buffet until after the first dance but people fix their plate anyway. If you have specific instructions, ask the staff at the venue to kindly enforce them. Guests may be frustrated at first but then once you take the dance floor they won't mind. Love Song Friday, Volume 33

Friday, Friday, Friday! Are you chanting it? I am. It is a pretty sight.

Let's get to it friends. This week we recapped my first Texas wedding and it was awesome! We looked at Vera's fab jewelry collection and donned WDW "Kenneth Pool" day. Yesterday I introduced you to my new friends and photographer couple Dan and Kristi of Daniel Holman Studios. Good week!

Today I decided that we needed an upbeat song. A song that is going to make you get up and dance around the room. Nothing like a dance party to send you into your weekend!

I am loving Jason Derulo's It Girl. This song makes me happy, a dancing queen and thankful for a husband who thinks I am his "It Girl." Ready, set, dance....

Happy Friday friends! You deserve a great weekend so make it happen.

New Vendor: Daniel Holman Photo

Happy Thursday lovelies! I am so excited to write this post today. When I started Lovebird Productions I never realized what a treat it would be to meet new vendors. Vendors are so encouraging because they can offer help, words of comfort and pass along to your information to more potential clients.

When I did the San Antonio Bridal Extravaganza (more on the event here) I met the sweetest couple. Dan and Kristi were new to San Antonio as well and reaching out to various vendors. Kristi gave me their card and a few weeks later I met her for coffee. I also got to meet their adorable and beyond handsome little boy Eric. I think I could write a whole post about Eric. He is so well mannered and already says yes ma'am.

Dan and Kristi have become such generous friends. This week Dan featured me on his blog with a few pictures he took of me. To read that post click here. I got to interview them as well but let's take a look at some of their work first.

Now more with Dan and Kristi:

1. Give us a little background about you and your family.

Dan grew up all over the US and loves the outdoors and to travel. Kristi is mostly from Texas and enjoys knitting, painting and loves to tag along with Dan on trips. We met in high school, got married in college and have a beautiful little boy Eric and another baby due in April of 2012!

2. How did you get started in wedding photography?

Dan has had a passion for photography since high school and opened his photography business in 2004 after finishing college. He soon was asked to photograph his first wedding and has enjoyed it ever since!

3. What is your favorite part of your job?

We love being a part of such an exciting event with all of its emotion and joy. It is also a thrill to present our brides with their wedding day memories to enjoy for years to come.

4. What do you hope to offer brides?

We offer unlimited hours of coverage with all of our wedding packages. Typically, most photographers reserve unlimited coverage for their biggest package only, but we feel it is so important because it allows the bride to enjoy her day without stressing over when the photographer will leave. Plus, we want to capture the real story of each couple with all of the fun details and emotions.

5. Tell us a few fun things about yourselves!

Dan makes mead (alcohol made by fermenting honey) and turns wooden bowls.

Kristi swam and played water polo in high school and still loves to be around water-- pools, lakes, rivers, rain, etc.

Of course I wanted to show more of Dan's work. He not only specializes in weddings but senior portraits, newborns and family sessions.

See, aren't they fabulous? To contact Dan or Kristi:

Wedding Dress Wednesday

Wednesday is upon us friends! What does that mean? Hopefully you just shouted Wedding Dress Wednesday! Hopefully.

I am always interested in featuring new designers. I was browsing a winter wedding inspiration shoot over on Green Wedding Shoes (for the inspiration shoot click here) and fell in love with the gowns they featured. I found the designer at the bottom of the post and immediately started browsing her work.

Kenneth Pool Bridal Collection is designed by Amsale Aberra. The line is just a few years old (7 years is short in the wedding industry) but is already very well known. The gowns are exquisite and feature details like beading, full skirts and a taste of luxury. Like normal I couldn't pick one but came away loving two of her amazing dresses.

The first is called Amour. It showcases a belted waist adorned with jewels that cascades into a fabulous ball gown skirt. The sweetheart neckline + ruching of course is one of my weaknesses.

The second gown is called Estelle. Notice the neckline again (told you it is a weakness). My favorite part is the skirt. The detailing is just plain gorgeous. Really think about it. That skirt was envisioned.  Someone sat down and sketched it then someone sewed it and a very happy bride will buy it. I love this dress!

After looking through the collection I like to look for recycled gowns from time to time. It interests me to see what people are selling. My best friend bought her gown on Ebay. At the time I thought she was absolutely nuts! She tried the gown on in the store but it would have cost about $800. She is the queen of budgeting and even though it looked perfect and needed no alterations she put it back. Brave, brave woman! Not giving up on her dream gown, she typed in the dress name and her size every day on Ebay (long before recycled wedding gown websites) for months. One day the gown popped up in her size and obviously only worn once. The owner and her emailed back and forth and Summer (my bff) bought the gown. The most amazing part is that she snagged it for $200. She saved $600.

Brilliant.

The gown fit perfect and Summer stuck to her budget. She actually saved money in the dress category. This makes me browse websites that resell gowns.

While looking online I came across my favorite Kenneth Pool gown, Ethereal. I am not a size 2 (and I am not getting married again) so I can't buy the dress but if you are reading and interested you can learn more about it here. The dress is marked down $2,600 smackers!

Isn't is fabulous? No explanation needed. Just stare at it. You will get why I love this dress. I have to say this is probably my favorite gown to date on Wedding Dress Wednesday.

What do you think of the gowns featured today? Are there any designers you would like featured on WDW? If so, email me @ lovebirdproduction@gmail.com. Happy Wednesday!

Vera Wang Does it Again

If you have read this blog at least twice you know that I have a small love affair with Vera Wang. Well, more like a big love affair. She is brilliant and unbelievably driven.

She creates stunning gowns, clothes, accessories, perfume, shoes & handbags. This woman does everything.

Everything.

This past fall Vera struck again when she started creating a jewelry line at Zales. I may be late to the game but I was just getting around to looking at her collection. Just like every other thing Vera touches, the jewels are fabulous. One thing I love about her is that she creates something for everyone. If you want to spend $10,000 on a diamond she's got it. If you want to spend less, you can do that too.

Let's take a look at some of my favorites:

Le Sigh for Vera. She also adds a pretty sapphire to each ring. Thank you to Vera Wang for ambition and impeccable style. We would be lost without you. For more on the entire collection click here.

Have you seen the collection? Which ring is your favorite? I would love to hear your thoughts on the collection. Happy Tuesday friends!

Wedding Weekend Recap

It is Monday friends! This post is going to cover a few random things so bare with me.

The wedding this past weekend was my first Texas wedding and it was a blast! With every wedding I learn something new. That means it is that time again were I list just a few lessons learned along the way. For previous lessons just click here and here.

1. Appreciate it all. Don't get me wrong. Every wedding I am apart of is a blessing. I cannot thank the brides, their friends and family enough for their hospitality and kindness on the wedding day. I just really miss dancing at weddings. I know that is silly but I love to dance. Yes, my moves are good! I am beyond grateful for the weddings I get to film but this summer I will get to dance at my first wedding (where I am not filming) in over a year. It is the little things to look forward too.

2. New venue and new vendors. This is one of my favorite parts of weddings. I love meeting new coordinators, photographers and enjoying all the new venues. It is such a treat to meet other vendors who are experienced and very encouraging! Take a look at the wonderful church:

Isn't it gorgeous? I was shocked when I walked in. And now for the reception site:

3. Catholic weddings are long. It was my first. Their isn't much explanation needed. I love tradition though. It makes a wedding even sweeter.

4. I love Southern food. I ate the whole plate. Yes probably 2,000+ calories but I didn't get lunch. This Texas wedding did it right. I had mashed potatoes, gravy, chicken fried steak, green beans and a roll. It was yummy but hard to work after I finished the whole plate. Yikes!

5. Southern weddings and brides truly are the best. I hate to be biased but southern weddings are the best. You get girls in cute cowgirl boots, choreographed family dances, wonderful food and drinks, southern hospitality and a healthy dose of charm. Yes, I have attended weddings up north but their is just something about the South. Everyone should say they went to at least one Southern wedding.

6. My brides are the best. I mean this and my heart is full by how sweet they are. I have been blessed a million times over by the amazing brides I have filmed. God is good!

That wraps up my list of things. I love my job...well not necessarily a job but a passion. I love what I do. For more news, I tweeted this video on Friday but it is so funny that I wanted to share it on the blog:

And now for the best part of this post: I have my first featured interview.

I know. I can't believe it either! I met Dan and Kristi a few months ago and they have become such sweet friends. Dan is an amazing photographer and I will be featuring his work later this week. Take a peek at the article by clicking here. Let me know what you think!

Love Song Friday, Volume 32

It is Friday! That means that you are well on your way to a fabulous weekend. I have my first Texas wedding this weekend. That means a new bride, new venues and new vendors. I am excited to meet everyone and see just how they do things in Texas. I promise to keep you updated and let you know how the wedding goes.

We have had a good week at LBP. Monday I listed a few goals for the month of December which means I looked at them again today. Eeek! I shared Laken and Murray's Highlight video with you. I still cannot believe the response on the video. We got almost 600 views on the video. That is very humbling! On Wednesday we obsessed over Saja wedding gowns. To kick off December I made this fun Christmas Inspiration Board. Feel free to look through any of the links above.

At a wedding I filmed awhile ago I heard one of the sweetest songs. I rushed home to read the lyrics. They made me cry (surprise). I want to share an insert of my favorite part:

Oh, and loves not just the sum of us
It's so much deeper
Goes so much wider
Love of a sweeter kind
Love with a patient mind
Bigger than my eyes have ever seen
Than my imagination dreams
It's big enough
Bigger than us
Love is patient, love is kind
Love has given us a sign
It's big enough
Bigger than us

It was hard to just pick on part. It is such a beautiful melody and perfect for this rainy Friday. I hope that you all have a fabulous work day and take a moment to enjoy what you love and who you love. Happy Friday friends!
