Tomorrow marks my two year anniversary of meeting my sweet husband. For those of you who don't know, we were complete strangers. He sat down next to me; we started talking; we got our own table to talk some more; he got a text from a friend asking if he was in love; we laughed; he drank beer with a cigarette butt in it (another post on that later); he told me he wasn't into sorority girls; I told him I was the former president of my sorority; he asked for my number and I gave it to him. The following week we had our first date and have been together every day since.
I thought it was only fitting to write him a love letter to celebrate two amazing years!
Rusty,
Since the moment I met you, I immediately realized you were special. You are one of the most positive people that I know. I can remember the butterflies you gave me the first time you hugged me. I am very lucky to still get those butterflies. You won me over so fast.
I know that I tell you this all the time but you are my prince charming. You are my soulmate. I can not believe that I ever lived my life without you. In two short years, you have made me a better person, challenged me daily and shown me a love I have never known. You are one of the best gifts that God has given me. I count my blessings every day.
I love waking up next to you. I love when you kiss me. I love that you are a good dad to Jane dog. I love that you make me laugh. I love that you know my thoughts. I love the way you comfort me when I get sad. I love that I get to be your wife for the rest of my life. I love that you have blessed me with your family. I love that you make me grilled cheese at 11 at night because I mention I am hungry. I love that you jump on the trampoline with me. I love that you taught me how to properly fold a shirt from your stint with working at Old Navy. I love that you encourage me. I love that you believe in my business and dreams. I love that your love for me in never waviering.
Rusty, you are such a blessing. I mean that. I promise to love you every day of my life. I promise to stand by your side. I promise to love you with every part of me. You have my heart forever.
Thank you for taking a chance with me that Tuesday. Who would have thought a great night of conversation and laughs would lead to two people falling in love. Thank you for asking me to be your wife.
I can't wait for the years to come and all the memories along the way.
Happy two year anniversary my love!
I love you,
Katie

Engagement Chicken
I have been chomping at the bit to write this post. Ladies, if you are looking to get engaged this post is for you. Ever heard of engagement chicken? In 2002 the recipe was published in Glamour magazine but the recipe originated 26 years ago. The then editor of Glamour passed on a simple chicken recipe to her assistant. She made the recipe for her boyfriend who then asked her to marry her a month later. When the editor found out that her recipe inspired three weddings, she dubbed it Engagement Chicken.
I have a friend who tried the recipe on her boyfriend about two months ago and while she is still not engaged, they have recently started talking about their future and might have even picked out babies names for their future children. Interested now?
Here is what you need:
1. Position an oven rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat the oven to 400°F. Remove the giblets from the chicken, wash the chicken inside and out with cold water, then let the chicken drain, cavity down, in a colander for 2 minutes.
2. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. Place the chicken breast-side down in a medium roasting pan fitted with a rack and pour the lemon juice all over the chicken, both inside and out. Season the chicken all over with salt and pepper inside and out.
3. Prick 2 whole lemons three times each in three different places with a fork and place them deep inside the cavity. Chicken cavity size may vary, so if one lemon is partly sticking out, that’s fine. (Tip: If the lemons are stiff, roll them on the countertop with your palm before pricking to get the juices flowing.)
4. Put the chicken in the oven, lower the oven temperature to 350°F, and roast, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
5. Remove the roasting pan from the oven. Using tongs or two wooden spoons, turn the chicken breast- side up. Insert a meat thermometer in the thigh, and return the chicken to the oven and roast for about 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes or until the meat thermometer reads 180°F and the juices run clear when the thigh is pricked with a fork. Continue roasting if necessary. Keep in mind that cooking times in different ovens vary; roasting a chicken at 350°F takes approximately 18-20 minutes per pound, plus an additional 15 minutes.
6. Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before carving. And here’s the secret: Pour the juices from the roasting pan on top of the sliced chicken— this is the “marry me juice.” Garnish with fresh herbs and lemon slices.
Doesn't it look yummy!
Warning: Make sure you make it for the man of your dreams because it may lead to happily every after! :)
If any of you have had success with engagement chicken, email me. I would love to hear your story! If you are attempting this recipe for your significant other, let me know how it goes!

Here is what you need:
- 1 whole chicken (approximately 4 pounds)
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice, plus 3 whole lemons—including 1 sliced for garnish
- 1 tablespoon kosher or coarse sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
- Fresh herbs for garnish (4 rosemary sprigs, 4 sage sprigs, 8 thyme sprigs, and 1 bunch fl at-leaf parsley)

All About the Benjamins, Part Deux
The last and final day of talking finances for now. I hope I haven't made you fall asleep at your computer screen while reading yesterdays and today's posts.
I recently read a really good tip for helping with wedding finances. I know that these days the responsibility of who pays for your wedding expenses has changed (parents versus you and your groom) but the tip suggested that once you have determined your spending limit, open a new checking account. Most banks offer free checking. Once you spend what is in the account, you are done. I hope most of you balance a checkbook or keep up with online banking. These practices will help with keeping up with your account balance.
I also have some tools that you could use online. All of the websites that I referenced for organizational checklists here also have great budget tools. With Martha Stewart, you can add new items, export reports and document every little cent you spend along the way.

Another solution to keep a reasonable budget is good old fashioned pen and paper. How much are you willing to spend for your major categories? Set your budget for each area before you spend. Setting a top price helps you to search the best deal, spend wisely and still have the details that you desire. Budgeting doesn't have to consume your time with planning your wedding. Predetermine your biggest expenses and work to overcome over spending. I have faith in you lovebird. I know you can do it!

Got a Question?
Yes, this title may not be perfect or creative but I want you to know that you are always welcome to email me questions. There are times where as a bride you just don't know the answer and don't have the time to figure it out. That is where I come in. Tweet me, Facebook me (love that is a noun now) or email me.
No question is silly and besides if I don't know the answer right away, I will research it until I do. Your questions are important to me and I want to help. I have been a bride before and what a whirlwind experience that can be. Now just contact me!

All about the Benjamins
Did you know that all about the Benjamin's is a reference to Benjamin Franklin? You may be laughing but I truly had no idea. Thank you to my sweet husband for explaining that.
I know that finances are not every one's favorite topic but I am confidentiallyeek addressing this topic. I hate to say it but I think today's topic will be two fold. Today, I will start with giving some basic tips to get you started in financial planning for your wedding and tomorrow I will give you tools to help with budgeting.
Every one has different expectations for their dream wedding but with expectations comes cost. Weddings today (via research statistics) cost between $24,000 to $29,000. Calm down. Don't panic. Step away from the chocolate cake. Well if you share with me, it is okay. These numbers are scary. For what it takes on average to get married in today's times could buy you are car, pay off students loans or feed a third world country for years. Average is such a lame word. None of you are average so let's step away from high wedding costs.
Regardless of who is paying for your wedding (parents or you and your groom) set a number. How much are you willing to pay for your wedding? This is a financial investment and should be planned out. Setting a budget is crucial. Make a list of the things that are most important to you. As a couple, what do you want to spend the most on? A wedding planner? A fabulous location? When Rusty and I were planning, we agreed that having a unforgettable reception and making it memorable for our guest was our top priority which made our reception the area where we spent the most money.
Now you have your set budget for the wedding. What are other ways to cut down on costs?
1. Time. More people are getting married on Sunday or Friday evenings. See if your location offers a better deal for non Saturdays. Yes, everyone gets married on Saturdays (I did) but if you can save money by moving your time or day then why not? The people who you truly want at your wedding will be there no matter when you get married.
2. Flower Power. The best piece of advice one of my Matron's of Honor gave me was no one will remember what flowers or centerpieces you have. When I disagreed, she asked me what hers were from her wedding. Guess what? She was right. I had no idea. Not many guests know what flowers are in season or will even remember the bouquet. Ask your florist what flowers are the most inexpensive. I am not asking you to compromise on the pretty details, just find less expensive but just as stunning details.
3. Bond with Brides. Know anybody or have a friend who would offer their services cheaper? Have you asked other brides who they used? I have a friend at my church who is wanting to start making invitations and has great rates. She is new to doing this for more than just her best buds. Other brides may have inside secrets to good finds. Don't be afraid to shop around for the best vendors either.
4. Sheet cake! Oh my goodness, I know she didn't just say sheet cake. At a wedding. Geez. But yes, sheet cake may not be your favorite but it can be much more cake for a BIG price difference. I am not suggesting that you skip the beautiful brides cake but try a smaller fancy cake and then add a sheet cake. Your cake will be great for pictures and keeping the top layer for your one year anniversary. After the cake is gone, a sheet cake can be served. Almost every wedding I have been to I am handed my piece of cake and do not even notice if it comes straight from the brides cake or not. The beauty is you can save major dollars, feed just as many plus keep the same flavor for both cakes.
I know that these tips may not be life changing but savings money in some areas always helps. Do not let money overwhelm you. You can pull off your dream wedding for a reasonable price. Write everything down, set a plan and spend wisely. In the end you will have a gorgeous wedding and can smile even more when you realize how much you saved.
Feel free to leave your comments below of other tips for keeping your budget in the green!

DIY Wedding Lantern
Besides working on this blog, I am constantly reading other blogs and finding cute ideas to pass along to my readers. The trend for many weddings now is DIY or Do It Yourself. DIY projects help with saving money, are fun and always unique.
I came across this project not too long ago and immediately fell in love with this project. Even though it was created to be a dining room fixture it would look great hanging from tree at an outdoor reception or placed in the center of draped fabric.
All you need to complete this project is a glue gun, coffee filters and a paper lantern. Just look at how stunning this paper lantern turned fluffy wedding fixture is:
To read more on this fun DIY lantern, check it out here. Also if you choose to do this project, I would love to help or see the finished result.
P.S. - I am not sure why the blog was not working properly yesterday but for those of you who missed yesterdays post you can check it out here.

Organization Smorganization
Congratulations! You are engaged.
Now, when is your date? Location? The color magenta or fuchsia? How much do you plan to spend? Have you asked your bridesmaids yet?
Yes, these questions will hit you the second you get that gorgeous stone placed on your finger and from personal experience you may want to hide in the corner of your room while rocking back and forth. Have no fear lovebird! I have some simple tools to keep you organized and to give you a gentle nudge in the right direction. I also promise not to ask any questions. Just think of me as your wedding fairy Godmother.
When my best friend got engaged, the first thing I did besides hug her and cry was go out and purchase a giant three ring binder. Yes, this may be old fashioned to keep a binder but she was prepared. We added dividers and made the cover of the binder really cute by adding photos and doodling. Summer would print off things, take notes, rip out pictures from magazines and glue them onto paper to remember her favorite ideas. This notebook was her inspiration, notes and hard work. Plus once the wedding was over it was a great keepsake!
Some of you may be a more technological bunch and want to keep up with things online. Below are some wedding websites that have great organizational tools to keep you on a timeline.
This first organization checklist is from The Knot. This checklist includes everything that you can think of plus it also allows you to add new items to customize it to your style of planning. You add something as simple as start teeth whitening strips at 3 weeks prior to the wedding or something larger like research honeymoon destinations for the best deal. Another added bonus is you can set reminders. Each reminder can be customized as a scheduled alert for a specific date and time.
I love the advertising here. If you look closely, you can see the Slim Fast ad. Nice.
Next we have a checklist from mywedding. This was the website that I used plus my own notebook. Mywedding's website is clean and not cluttered. This checklist used my style of marking through what you have completed. It gives you a sense of accomplishment. It also allows you to add tasks to your list plus gives you the option to print off a PDF of your checklist. It makes for a good visual reminder.
Lastly we have a checklist from Martha Stewart Weddings. Oh Martha, I love you. With this checklist you can edit the task on the list to make the text reference things for your wedding. Their are even coupons on great deals at the top of the list for other sites. You can search for a task by category, month or assignee. Yes, they give you the option of assigning tasks to other people. This can be helpful for encouraging your groom to look into groomsmen gifts or decide what food to have at the rehearsal. Another feature is being able to export, email and print your list. This can help by emailing it to your maid of honor and bridesmaids for assistance in getting things completed. It also tells you the percentage of items that you have finished.
Always know that regardless of how large your checklist may seem, your wedding is about you and your fiance. You should have the time of your life! Organization is key but should not be a stressful thing. Just look at it as a helpful way to assist you in making your wedding a beautiful reality.
I hope that everyone is having a great Saturday with loved ones!
(P.S. - If you ever have questions, please email me:lovebirdproduction@gmail.com. Even if your question is about a flower type or how to get your mother-in-law to back off, I want to help!)

Love Song Friday, Volume 1
During college, my sweet roommate and I celebrated Love Song Friday. Each Friday we would wake up and blast love songs throughout our apartment while singing along. This is exactly what I want you to do. Listen to this song over and over. Think about how great love truly is, how lucky you are to have love or the future you will have when you find love.
This song is Matthew West's "When I Say I Do." I am a K-LOVE listener and every Valentine's Day he selects one couple to write a love song about. Here is my favorite lyric in this song:
And now for better or for worse
Are so much more than only words
And I pray everyday will be the proof
That I mean what I say when I say "I do."
Be still my beating heart. I pray everyone can understand the words someday and live them out in their relationship. You deserve it.
Each Friday I will debut a new love song for you to enjoy. Come back tomorrow for a new post!
On a side note, please ignore these cheesy youtube photos and captions. No, I didn't make this! :)
Happy Friday y'all!

Rent the Runway
One joy of starting a wedding videography business is that I get to blog about all things wedding. Not only will I be telling you about my cute couples and their love stories but I will also be letting you in on some great wedding finds.
One thing that I am extremely excited to tell you about is Rent the Runway. Yes most stars purchase their own designer gowns but now you can rent the same dresses that the stars wear. How cool is that? You can rent a dress, wear it to an event, dazzle the crowd, save money on your eye catching gown, then just mail it back. A new feature that Rent the Runway is starting is a line of bridesmaid dresses! One thing I love about this is now you don't have to tell your bridewhy are you making me wear this dress? that you will just cut the dress off an hem it to wear it later. You can send it back! They also have a wide collection of dresses for any one attending a wedding, business event or formal.
Just look at how cute these bridesmaid dresses are:

Some things to know:
1. How do you ensure my order arrives when I need it?
Answer: Rent the Runway's main priority is to get you your dress before your special day. They deliver right to your doorstep on the date you request.
2. Will the dress fit?
Answer: Probably the coolest thing ever - They always send you a second dress in whatever size you order...absolutely FREE! Less than 1% of customers have fit issues. I know...I love them already. In the unlikely event your dress doesn't fit, they will ship you another one before your event.
3. What if the weather is bad or something goes wrong?
Answer: They never leave you without something great to wear. Fashion emergencies are their specialties!
4. How do I know the dress is clean when I receive it?
Answer: They only ship dresses that receive a 100% fresh seal of approval from their eco-friendly, luxury dry cleaner. The minute a dress looks worn, they retire it from their collection. They say if they wouldn't wear it, they know you won't either.
5. What if I damage the dress, am I liable?
Answer: No worries! For only $5 your dress is insured from wine spills, a broken zipper or a loose stone. Party on!
Now that you are totally in love with Rent the Runway, check out their site. It is as easy as signing up via email then browsing away. What a neat way to transform your wedding with stylish bridesmaid gowns that your girls will love or be the best dress attendee. Check it out!

Well here is the big secret....drumroll...I am starting a my own wedding videography business. Eee! I am beyond excited to share Lovebird Productions with you.
After many hours of groundwork, prayer and planning, I am finally showing everyone my secret. I am very excited that you would take the time to share in this life changing moment with me.
I graduated college almost two years ago and have been searching for my passion. Since college, I have contemplated what my career goals were. Sitting at work one day, I narrowed down the things that I love to weddings and creating/editing video. And here we are, Lovebird Productions.
Yes, I want to create wedding videos for you. I would love to be apart of your wedding journey, from the proposal, to the engagement session followed by your big weekend of rehearsing, tears, laughter, "I do's", dancing and riding off into the sunset. This is what Lovebird Productions is about, making memories for you to share with your loved ones for years to come.
Here is the kicker, not only am I going to be doing videography but I also plan to blog every day about everything wedding. Each day you can come back to this site to read about dresses, cake, lighting, color schemes, budgeting, invitations and more. In other words, bookmark me! Not only does this site appeal to upcoming brides but to all women. Let's have fun!
I want to keep you entertained every day whether I am sharing tips on cake toppers or showing you an adorable couple whose wedding I had the privilege to be a part of. I believe in this business and know that God has brought me to this point to do what I love: encourage brides, couples and mostly empower women. This small piece of web world will be a safe haven for positive reading, smiles and warm fuzzies.
So, without further ado- my blog and website. Have a look around! Let me know what you think. I ask that you please follow me on Twitter, "like" me on Facebook and subscribe to my RSS feed. Also, click to follow me on the right hand side of the blog. I can guarantee you it will be worth it. Please feel free to email me with any questions you have. It can be questions you want answered on the blog or more about my videography services.
Thank you for your support and come back tomorrow for a new post!
